[Tales of a Happy World] The Friendship of ‘Old Man’

After majoring in animal science in college, he got a job at an animal research center. His first duty was to deliver food everyday to a small island where a chimpanzee named, ‘Old Man’ lived.

Other coworkers told him that chimpanzees were dangerous. Especially since an old leader like ‘Old Man’ disliked humans.

They told him to be wary. He tried to avoid getting close to chimpanzees and spent his time watching them from afar. But ‘Old Man’ seemed gentle, contrary to what was said.

The way he treated baby chimps as if they were the treasures, was really impressive. He started to like chimpanzees.

"Hey, good boy…"

He tried to gradually approach the young chimpanzees. And soon, he was able to communicate with ‘Old Man’.

Handing out a banana and sharing body language… His heart filled at the thought of being ‘Old Man’s friend. The duration of his visits became longer and longer.

Their friendship deepened.

One day, while playing with Old Man, he accidentally slipped and fell into the baby chimps’ area. As the baby chimpanzees started to scream and run, two female chimps thought he was trying to hurt the babies.
They attacked and started to bite.

"Look! This is an accident!"

Suddenly, ‘Old Man’ screamed and chased the two females away. The man escaped with injuries and went towards the boat. ‘Old Man’ looked like he was trying to protect him when he stayed and blocked the two females. Then he stood by the water and watched the boat fade.
